Vivek Ramaswamy’s Controversial Response
During a speech at an evangelical conference on Friday, questions were raised about Vivek Ramaswamy‘s beliefs because he had attempted to position himself within the influential conservative voter base.
“Who is your God?” A voice interrupted during a speech by the Republican presidential hopeful at the Family Research Council’s Pray Vote Stand Summit in Washington, D.C.
It’s not clear whether the former biotech CEO Ramaswamy heard the question, but he did not react to it. His rival, Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL), had spoken to him earlier in the program, and former President Donald Trump is expected to make an appearance later in the evening.
While Ramaswamy didn’t directly answer Heckler’s question, he did subtly, albeit unequivocally, make faith a focal point of his remarks.He said, “God is real,” at one point.
The Republican candidate, who identifies as a Hindu and whose parents moved from India, has previously been questioned about his religion. Throughout the campaign, he has encountered similar signals after invoking God.
Recently, a voter in Iowa asked him about his faith. He responded, “I am a Hindu. I was born a Hindu. We’ve raised our children in that tradition as well.”
Ramaswamy emphasized the importance of faith without delving into specifics during his speech. He explained that in the United States, “secularism” is on the rise, pointing towards different “isms” of identity politics, gender ideology, and climate activism as various “religions.”
“What is happening in our country?” He asked the audience.
He said, “Right now, we are in the midst of a crisis of national identity.”
He said, “Faith, patriotism, hard work, family – these things have gone missing, and it leaves a moral void.” to the gathering.
Relatively unknown at the beginning of the year, Ramaswamy, who has made inroads into Republican circles, has gained popularity within the party. In recent polls, he has threatened DeSantis in some cases, vowing to remain a contender. However, Trump has only expanded his lead in the rest of the field.
