In the first glimpse of Pablo Larraín’s latest biopic, Angelina Jolie is the epitome of grace amidst chaos, portraying opera singer Maria Callas. The film, based on true events, promises to weave a captivating, beautiful, and poignant narrative of the tumultuous life of the world’s greatest opera singer, brought back to life through imagination. It unfolds during her final days in 1970s Paris.

Aside from Jolie, the film features Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Valeria Golino. The screenplay, completed before the writers’ strike, is penned by Larrain’s collaborator Steven Knight.

Larrain, who also directed Jackie, said in a statement, “I am incredibly excited to embark on the journey of bringing Maria to life. I hope that Maria Callas’s remarkable life and work will be presented to audiences around the world in a magnificent script.” With the direction of Steve Knight, the entire cast and crew, and especially Angelina’s outstanding performance and preparation.

Maria is produced by Fabula, for which Juan de Dios Larraín, Komplizen Film’s Jonas Dornbach, and Lorenzo Mieli’s The Apartment serve as producers. The worldwide distribution of Maria’s remarkable story will be managed by FilmNation Entertainment.

The film is currently in its eighth week of shooting, with an interim agreement with SAG-AFTRA. Maria is being filmed in various locations, including Paris, Greece, Budapest, and Milan.
