Tourist Shot and injured

In a startling incident at the heart of Times Square, a tourist was shot and injured by an armed assailant, according to the New York City Police Department (NYPD). Gunfire erupted, involving responding officers.

It was around 7 PM when three individuals entered JD Sports, a clothing and sneaker store, on Thursday. They initiated theft on the second floor, stated NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell. Advancing to the second floor lobby, they encountered a female security guard who successfully thwarted the theft, Chell noted.

Police disclosed that the gunman fired towards the security guard, but instead hit a 38-year-old woman from Brazil, striking her above the left knee. According to News agency, citing police sources, the woman sought refuge in a storage room in stable condition before being transported to the hospital for treatment, where she continues to receive care.

Identified as a teenage gunman from Colombia, he fled several blocks, firing two shots to evade officers. Fortunately, no officers were harmed, and the gunshots ceased due to the crowded area.

The suspect reportedly discarded his shoes and jacket and sprinted into a subway station with platforms. Later, he emerged from the metro and remained at large.

“This attack on a police officer is an attack on all of us!” tweeted NYPD Commissioner Kaj Duggar. “This coward put in hard work to shoot an innocent New Yorker and then set our officers on fire… this individual poses a threat and should be apprehended immediately.”

One of the two individuals present at the clothing store with the suspect has been identified and interviewed by detectives, recognized as a 15-year-old boy. Officers are still seeking to speak with a third person who was with the suspect. Investigation is ongoing as officers have been working to piece together the events of this dangerous incident at one of New York City’s most iconic locations.
